Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have once again led to armed clashes.
Modern.az reports, citing "Tolo News", that clashes have occurred in Nangarhar province, eastern Afghanistan.
According to witnesses, gunfire was heard from a distance, and the parties used heavy weapons.
"Associated Press" reports that a confrontation with Afghan armed forces has been recorded in Pakistan's northwestern border region. Islamabad has accused the neighboring country of “unprovoked armed attack.” In response, Pakistani artillery destroyed several Afghan military posts and tanks. This is the second border incident between the two countries in the past week.
"Daily Pakistan" writes that the Pakistani army targeted militant positions located in Afghan territory with artillery after the attack in Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Tensions further escalated after the “Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan” group, also known as “Taliban” and “Fitna al-Khawarij,” opened fire on Pakistani border posts.
According to information, the Pakistan Armed Forces have been placed on high alert since October 11. Although fighting was temporarily halted on October 12 following mediation calls from Saudi Arabia and Qatar, border crossing points remain closed.
According to Islamabad's statement, the Pakistani army neutralized approximately 200 militants, destroyed 19 terrorist facilities located in Afghan territory, and struck the headquarters of a tank battalion supporting the attacks.
It should be noted that there is a 2400-kilometer long border line between Pakistan and Afghanistan, and some parts of it are still disputed.
On October 13, US President Donald Trump issued a statement saying that he is ready to intervene in the military confrontation between Afghanistan and Pakistan “because he is well-versed in the peace process.”
