The court process regarding the demand for the annulment of the results of the 38th congress of Turkey's opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has concluded.
According to information from Modern.az, the Ankara Civil Court rejected the lawsuit, deeming it “unfounded.”
According to the information, the decision was made on the grounds of insufficient evidence.
At the 38th congress held in November 2023, Özgür Özel was elected as the new chairman of the CHP, defeating Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who had led the party for 13 years. Following this, legal disputes began within the party. Lütfü Savaş, the former mayor of Hatay, and a group of CHP representatives had appealed to various courts with allegations such as fraud during voting and the buying of delegates.
In February 2025, these claims were consolidated and began to be jointly investigated at Ankara's 42nd Civil Court. In previous stages, the court had not accepted motions to suspend the party leadership's activities, and at the same time, had postponed sessions to await the results of the ongoing criminal case related to the matter.
During this period, the CHP leadership took steps to strengthen its legitimacy. In September 2025, the party held its 22nd extraordinary congress, reconfirming Özgür Özel's leadership.
