The US military has concentrated a force consisting of dozens of warships and aircraft in the Caribbean Sea in the last two months.
Modern.az reports that this step is considered the largest military escalation in the region in recent decades.
According to information, B-52 bomber aircraft are conducting exercises off the coast of Venezuela, and F-35 fighter jets, P-8 Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft, and MH-6M helicopters have also been observed in the region. A vessel used by the US to support special forces is reported to have been seen off the coast of Trinidad and Tobago.
President Donald Trump last week admitted that he had given the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) “authority to conduct covert operations” in Venezuela. Although Trump presented these activities as “the fight against drug trafficking,” experts state that it is aimed at regime change.
Experts believe that the US's goal is to put pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's army and his inner circle, and to incite them to oppose the president.
The US administration had previously promised a $50 million reward for Maduro's capture, but this initiative had not yielded results.
Currently, Washington officially accuses the Venezuelan leader of narco-terrorism and corruption charges, and justifies its military preparations in the Caribbean as a “preventive measure.”
However, observers do not rule out that this process could effectively turn into a regime change operation.
