Takaiçi Sanae, elected Prime Minister in Japan, has formed her new government.

Takaiçi, elected Prime Minister with 237 votes in the parliamentary ballot held on October 21, 2025, has inscribed her name in the country's history as the “first female head of government.”

According to Modern.az, one of the notable names in the new cabinet is politician Arfiya Eri, who is of Uyghur Turkish ethnicity.

She has been re-confirmed in her position as Japan's Deputy Foreign Minister. Arfiya Eri stated on her social media account that she is proud to work alongside Takaiçi Sanae and Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.

“We will sincerely continue to work to further strengthen Japan's diplomatic capabilities and international leadership,” she noted.

Arfiya Eri was born in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, into a Uyghur family that had migrated from East Turkestan. She obtained Japanese citizenship at the age of 11. Her father was an engineer who studied on a scholarship from the Japanese government.

Eri is a graduate of the renowned Georgetown University in the USA, is fluent in 7 languages, and previously worked at the UN and the Bank of Japan. She currently represents the 5th district of Chiba Prefecture in the lower house of parliament as a member of the Liberal Democratic Party.

At just 36 years old, Arfiya Eri is considered the youngest female member of the Japanese parliament. "Time" magazine named her one of the “100 most influential young leaders in the world” in 2023.
