Early on Monday, at least seven people died and approximately 150 people were injured during a 6.3 magnitude earthquake near the city of Mazar-i-Sharif in northern Afghanistan.

"As of this morning, seven people have died, and 150 injured people have been transferred to medical centers," - said Samim Coyanda, spokesperson for the health department of Samangan province, located near Mazar-i-Sharif.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 28 km near Mazar-i-Sharif, a city with a population of approximately 523,000. The earthquake was also felt in neighboring Uzbekistan.
