US President Donald Trump received the leaders of the region's countries at the White House within the framework of the "Central Asia + US" (C5+1) format summit.
The presidents of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan participated in the meeting.
According to Modern.az, one of the notable aspects during the summit was the heads of state delivering speeches in different languages.
Kyrgyz leader Sadyr Japarov and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon spoke in their native languages. Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, however, conducted their talks with Trump in Russian.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered his speech in English as the only leader in the "C5+1" format.
According to observers, Tokayev's use of English demonstrated Kazakhstan's increasing diplomatic flexibility in relations with the West and its intention to be a "major player" in the international arena.
It is reported that the main discussion topics at the summit were security, energy cooperation, transport and logistics projects, and the economic integration of the region's countries.
In his speech, Trump emphasized that the US intends to strengthen its partnership with Central Asia, and that the sovereignty and independence of the region are a priority for Washington.
