The plan failed - Gaza could be fragmented

US President Donald Trump's peace plan, aimed at ending the conflict in the Gaza Strip, is effectively failing.

According to Modern.az, sources speaking to "Reuters" news agency have stated that the implementation of the plan's next phase has been “practically frozen”.

Currently, the Israeli army controls 53 percent of the Gaza Strip, while approximately 2 million people live in the remaining part controlled by Hamas. According to Trump's plan, in the next phase, the Israeli army was supposed to gradually withdraw from the temporary border called the “yellow line”, and “multinational security forces” were to be deployed in its place.

However, the implementation mechanism and timetable for these clauses have not yet been determined. It is noted that if the US does not find a way out of the process, the current “yellow line” could long become a de facto border dividing Gaza into two parts.

In the first phase of the plan, that is, after the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, other steps have been halted. Israel refuses to withdraw without Hamas fully laying down its arms and opposes the participation of the Palestinian Authority in the governance of Gaza. Furthermore, no agreement has been reached regarding the composition of the multinational forces.

Diplomatic sources have stated that under these circumstances, no state, including European and Arab countries, is ready to send its military personnel to Gaza. In their opinion, if the function of international forces exceeds the framework of “peacekeeping”, this will increase the risk of direct confrontation with Palestinian armed groups.
