Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called the parliamentary elections to be held in 2026 a significant opportunity to “cleanse the country's political system from foreign influence agents.”

According to Modern.az, Pashinyan voiced these thoughts during his speech in parliament during the discussion of the 2026 state budget draft.

He stated that criticisms are often heard in society that the government still reacts to the influence of previous leaders such as Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan:

“Citizens say that sometimes it is convenient for you to return to these topics, because it creates an opportunity to avoid solving real problems. This situation must be ended, and the way to do this is the upcoming parliamentary elections. We must ensure that the political forces led by them are not in parliament.”

The Prime Minister noted that “agents of another country are trying to instill feelings of hatred and disgust towards the Armenian state today,” but the country “possesses its own sovereign will and decision-making center.”

During his speech, Pashinyan also leveled harsh accusations against the representatives of the “Dashnaktsutyun” Party:

“For 70 years, your party has acted as an agent of influence for that country in various parts of the world. The issue is not which country is currently being discussed. We must decide: will we accept a network of foreign influence agents in our parliament, or not. My answer is – no.”
