Turkey plays a very important role in the South Caucasus, and the US is not against this; Washington considers Ankara an important ally in the region.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by American political scientist and former assistant to the 43rd US President George Bush for Russia and Eurasia, Thomas Graham, during his speech on the “Power Factor” program.

According to him, the issue of the South Caucasus is more complex than, for example, Central Asia, because the US has direct interests in the South Caucasus and therefore intends to play an active role there.

“I do not think that the US will completely rely on Turkey in this matter, but at least during Trump's era, close discussions will definitely continue,” he emphasized.

Thomas Graham added that Washington is also not against Turkey playing an active role in Central Asia.

“Russia and China, rivals of the US, currently play a significant role there. Therefore, Turkey's activities in this region largely align with US interests.
Central Asia has vast mineral resources important for the development of high technologies, which is why interest in the region is growing among all major powers. Therefore, it can be predicted that geopolitical competition will intensify there,” he stated.
