Armenia is discussing two scenarios with the US for leasing the "Trump route" passing through Zangazur for a period of 49 or 99 years.
Modern.az reports that this was announced by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at a conference on regional security held in Yerevan.
A 99-year lease agreement was discussed when the relevant declaration was signed in Washington on August 8. Now, a new scenario has also been brought up for discussion.
The Armenian Prime Minister explained that the terms are related to investment and its profitability. The investor must have a guarantee of earning a return on their investments, in addition to a certain profit.
It should be noted that Nikol Pashinyan stated during his speech in parliament yesterday that the construction of the "Trump Road" will begin in the second half of 2026.
It should be recalled that on August 8 in Washington, the leaders of Armenia, the US, and Azerbaijan signed a joint declaration on the peaceful resolution of the conflict. According to the US President, Armenia will grant the US exclusive long-term rights for the development of the route (operating within the framework of Armenian legislation), and through these rights, Azerbaijan will be able to establish a land connection with Nakhchivan. The American side plans to lease the land to a consortium responsible for infrastructure and management.
The foreign ministers of the two countries also signed a joint appeal to close the OSCE Minsk Group and its related structures. The ministers also initialed the text of the future peace agreement and subsequently published it.
