After a 13-year hiatus, Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yılmaz has been appointed Turkey's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Syria.

Modern.az reports that Turkey has appointed its first ambassador to Syria since the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime.

According to the decision signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yılmaz has been appointed Turkey's Ambassador to the Syrian Arab Republic.

It should be noted that after the start of the civil war in Syria, the Turkish embassy in Damascus ceased its activities on March 26, 2012.

Following the opening of the embassy, former Ambassador to Nouakchott Burhan Koroğlu was appointed Chargé d'Affaires on December 12, 2024.
