New and controversial claims regarding the possible resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have been circulated in the Israeli media.
Modern.az reports that, according to information from the “Kan-11” television channel, President Isaac Herzog is ready to consider the Prime Minister's amnesty request, but intends to take this step only under certain conditions.
According to the claims, two main demands may be placed before Netanyahu: firstly, his resignation from the post of prime minister, but with the retention of the possibility to return to this position in future elections. Secondly, the proposal is for him to abandon the continuation of legal reforms that have caused long-term political tension in the country.
The presidential administration denied the circulated information, stating that Herzog has not yet made any decision and will hold extensive consultations with experts for this purpose.
A similar claim regarding the issue was also voiced by the “Keshet-12” television channel. According to the channel's report, the president is not preparing to grant amnesty without any conditions, and the possibility of limiting Netanyahu's term in office or imposing additional political obligations is being discussed.
Against the backdrop of these events, a protest was held in front of the president's residence in Tel Aviv. A group of approximately 200 people demanded that Herzog reject Netanyahu's pardon request. Police declared the protest illegal and attempted to remove the demonstrators from the area. Tensions were reported at the scene.
It has not yet been officially confirmed whether Netanyahu will resign.
