The Kremlin refused to disclose information on whether Bashar al-Assad is currently in Russia.
Modern.az reports that Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated this while answering journalists' questions.
Peskov was asked about Syria's fugitive ex-president Bashar al-Assad staying in Russia for the past year, as well as whether he met with Vladimir Putin during this period. The Kremlin official answered the question as follows: “No, we cannot share any information on this matter.”
It should be noted that Bashar al-Assad left Syria at the beginning of December last year. Forces led by the “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” group attacked from the north of the country and captured Damascus in less than two weeks, leading to the collapse of the Assad regime.
Following the collapse of the regime, it was reported that Assad and his family were taken to Moscow and granted asylum by Russia.
However, the Kremlin has not yet released official information regarding Assad's status in Russia or any high-level meetings.
