Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at a meeting with military personnel that it is necessary to create a “security zone” along the border with Ukraine.

According to Putin, the decision aims to strengthen internal security in the responsibility zone of the “North” grouping.
The order of the Russian President indicates Moscow's intention to expand control in areas near the border of Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions. Currently, Russian troops control a small territory in the north of Sumy region and continue offensive operations in some directions of Kharkiv region.
The Ukrainian side, however, views this step as an attempt to increase pressure on border regions and escalate the situation in the northern part of the front.
