The investigation into three criminal cases against Shahin Shikhlinksi, the former head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in the Ural region of Russia, has been completed.
Modern.az reports that, according to Russian media, he could face the most severe penalty – life imprisonment – in court.
The information states that Shikhlinksi vehemently denies all charges brought against him and does not consider himself guilty.
In parallel with the investigation, a separate criminal case has also been opened against his son, Mutvali Shikhlinksi. He is accused of “using force” against a law enforcement officer. The maximum penalty under this article is 10 years of deprivation of liberty. Mutvali Shikhlinksi also denies the charges.
Russian law enforcement agencies have completed the investigation and submitted the materials to the court. The trial is expected to begin in the coming days.
It should be recalled that in August, Moscow's Basmanny Court arrested Shahin Shikhlinksi, the head of the “Azerbaijan-Ural” public organization and the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg, in absentia. He voluntarily surrendered in Moscow and was transported from there to Yekaterinburg.
Local media reports that a criminal case has been opened against Shahin Shikhlinksi under two articles of the Russian Criminal Code.
He was wanted under Article 318 of the Russian Criminal Code (use of force against a government representative) and Part 2 of Article 105 (premeditated murder).
