The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, US leader Donald Trump's special representative Stephen Witkoff, and the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner has concluded.
The talks lasted approximately five hours. Modern.az reports that after the meeting, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov briefed journalists.
Ushakov stated that the parties discussed the documents presented by the United States. According to him, the materials conveyed by Washington to Moscow pertain to a long-term settlement for Ukraine. However, Russia and the US have agreed not to disclose the content of the talks.
The presidential aide said that the American representatives discussed a general concept, not specific formulas. Witkoff and Kushner are expected to return to the US to convey the results of the talks to President Trump, and then re-establish contact with Moscow. Ushakov also noted that a new meeting between the US and Russian presidents is not yet planned.
According to him, Moscow received an additional four documents from the Trump administration, along with the initial 28-point plan. General theses regarding these materials were discussed.
According to Ushakov, the parties also discussed Ukraine's territorial issues within the framework of the “peace plan” presented by the US. However, it was not possible to reach a compromise. Russia believes that some of the proposals put forward by the Americans are unacceptable.
“Territorial issues were also raised... There is no compromise option for Ukraine yet, some proposals are not suitable for Russia,” Ushakov stated. He added that while some American approaches were considered acceptable for Moscow, a number of points led to serious criticism.
Furthermore, Ushakov described the talks as “useful and constructive.” According to him, the parties neither moved closer to peace nor further away from it; the situation remained unchanged.
In addition to the package related to Ukraine, Russia–US economic relations were also discussed during the talks.
The presidential aide also commented on Jared Kushner's involvement in the process. Recalling Kushner's work experience in the Middle East, he stated that the US is currently actively working on the Russia and Ukraine dossier as well.
“Yes, this is a relatively new figure, but he worked very productively with Witkoff in the Middle East... And now, for some time, he has been involved in Russian-American and Ukrainian issues and has actively participated in the formation of the prepared documents,” Ushakov emphasized.
