The Russian Armed Forces have taken control of Pokrovsk, one of the strategic points of Donetsk region.
Modern.az reports that Germany's "Bild" publication has come forward with this claim.
According to Julian Röpcke, the publication's military observer, Ukrainian forces are still present in nearby Myrnohrad.
Röpcke writes that the loss of Pokrovsk is another serious blow to Ukraine in terms of information warfare:
“This shows that the Ukrainian army cannot stop the Russian offensive, it can only slow it down”.
He states that Pokrovsk had long since lost its strategic importance for Kyiv, and all roads leading to the city have either been destroyed, become targets for drones, or lead to Russian-controlled territories.
"Bild" writes that Pokrovsk could be a potential springboard for a new Russian offensive westward towards the Dnipropetrovsk region. However, Röpcke believes that this event will not have a decisive impact on the war for the rest of Donbas.
According to Röpcke, the two major cities still controlled by Ukraine in Donbas - Sloviansk and Kramatorsk are located more than 50 kilometers from Pokrovsk, and military operations against these cities have not yet begun.
