The Russian Embassy in Tehran has advised Russian tourists to refrain from taking photos and videos when traveling to Iran.

Modern.az reports, citing "Kommersant", that the diplomatic mission stated this would help prevent "undesirable incidents and potential deliberate violations of the law".

A press release published by the Embassy on Telegram states: "Russian citizens are advised to strictly adhere to local legislation and exercise caution when traveling to the Islamic Republic of Iran".

The website of the Russian Consulate General in Rasht, Iran, states that photography and video recording of government institutions, foreign missions, and military facilities are prohibited in Iran. Warning signs have been placed in these areas, and violations of the rules may result in arrest. However, photography of the city's sights, historical monuments, and "scenes of modern life" is permitted.

Since 2023, a visa-free travel mechanism has been in effect between Russia and Iran. This mechanism is intended for organized tourist groups (5-50 people) for a period not exceeding 15 days.
