Even if an agreement is reached during peace talks, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has stated that the arrest warrants issued against Vladimir Putin and other high-ranking Russian officials in connection with Russia's aggression against Ukraine will remain in force.

Modern.az reports that Reuters and Associated Press have disseminated this information.

According to ICC representatives, the investigation conducted by the court can only be temporarily suspended by a decision of the UN Security Council.

Najat Shamim Khan, Deputy Prosecutor of the ICC, noted that if the investigation continues, the court acts only within its legal framework, and political agreements do not affect the legal force of the warrants.

The court had previously issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin, Children's Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova, former Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov, Commander of the Air Force Sergei Kobyash, and Commander of the Black Sea Fleet Viktor Sokolov.

The institution accuses these individuals of serious violations of international law in connection with military operations in Ukraine, and their criminal prosecution continues to remain in the focus of the world community.
