US President Donald Trump has made new statements regarding Ukraine's NATO membership.

According to Modern.az, in an interview with "Politico", Trump stated that the understanding that Ukraine's admission to the alliance “would not be possible” existed even before Vladimir Putin came to power.

According to him, this was part of a position that had been formed in the West for many years.

Trump added that the Ukrainian leader's failure to express his intention to return Crimea and join NATO in “not so polite a tone” during the first meeting between Zelensky and Putin further exacerbated relations with Moscow.

The owner of the White House also used harsh expressions about Europe and NATO in his interview. He said that he does not intend to lead Europe and only wants to deal with the US: “NATO calls me "father". But Europe is falling apart. What weakens them is political correctness.”

Trump claimed that many European countries might “lose their viability” in the coming years due to their current migration policies.

Speaking about Ukrainian President Zelensky, Trump compared him to US showman P. T. Barnum and called him an “excellent salesman”. The US leader claimed that Zelensky convinced “foolish Joe Biden” to allocate 350 billion dollars to Ukraine. Trump also stated that Ukraine has already  “lost approximately 25 percent” of its territory.
