The European Union has remained in the shadows in the process of settling the Russia-Ukraine war and has yet to formulate a clear strategy on how the conflict will end.

Modern.az reports that "The New York Times" publication wrote about this.

The publication notes that Brussels is caught between the US and Russia and struggles to provide answers regarding key decisions about Ukraine's future.

US President Donald Trump's description of Europe as a “continent in decline” reflects only a part of the problems faced by European leaders. Alongside external pressures, Europeans are also experiencing an internal crisis: budget deficits, declining public trust, the strengthening influence of radical right-wing forces, and against this backdrop, difficult tasks such as ensuring the security of countries and continuing support for Ukraine.

Leaders of European countries must convince their voters of the necessity of supporting Ukraine. This will require additional military expenditures, expansion of the army, and new mechanisms in the conscription system. Furthermore, a more serious political strategy must be established against the rise of populist and nationalist right-wing parties, which the Trump administration has openly sympathized with.
