Bulgaria's Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced the government's resignation.

Modern.az reports that the Prime Minister made a statement about this at an emergency press conference held in parliament. It is reported that the statement was made at a time when parliament was preparing to hold a vote of no confidence in the Cabinet of Ministers. BTA disseminated information about this.

According to BTA, anti-government protests, which began in the country in protest of “controversial budget plans,” later escalated into broader dissatisfaction related to “corruption, injustice, and failures in many areas of the public sector.”

Protests have been held in Bulgaria since the end of November. The protests began in opposition to the government's plans to increase the social tax burden for employers and raise the dividend tax, with the aim of increasing public sector spending.

Although the Cabinet of Ministers withdrew the controversial draft budget for the coming year on December 2, calls for the cabinet's resignation have not subsided.
