Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with the support of his European allies, has developed a response strategy to US President Donald Trump's peace plan. The goal is to make this plan acceptable to Ukraine.
Modern.az reports that "The Wall Street Journal" has published information on this matter.
The publication writes that this strategy is essentially based on a simple “yes, but...” approach and specifically involves pressuring partners regarding the implementation mechanisms of the most contentious points.
According to the information, Zelensky is ready for elections, but a ceasefire is required for this. He states that the Russian side's presence at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, currently occupied by Russia, may remain, but the situation must be kept under control by Ukraine and the US. Zelensky also admits that the size of the Ukrainian army could be limited, but this should be within existing levels.
The publication notes that “this approach has allowed Zelensky to support Trump's vision for peace, but without harming his political standing within the country”.
It should also be noted that the agreement proposed by the US envisages the transformation of the remaining part of Donetsk Oblast into a “free economic zone” or a “demilitarized zone”. Ukrainian troops must be withdrawn from this zone, and Russian military personnel must be prohibited from entering it.
