NATO must re-evaluate its strategic framework and prepare for a confrontation with Russia that will extend beyond the confines of the "Battle for the Atlantic" or land operations in Europe.
Modern.az reports that this was noted in the latest review by the NATO Defense College.
The author of the document, Andrew Monaghan, a research fellow at the college, claimed that the development of all state naval forces is a key feature of Moscow's policy. The expert noted that this allows Russia to present itself as a leader in an era of geo-economic competition.
"This directs NATO's strategic orientation beyond the framework of a renewed "Battle for the Atlantic" or land operation scenarios in Northeast Europe, towards a multi-front, multi-domain Russian challenge with global horizons," the review stated.
Alliance analysts also noted that crisis scenarios often focus on an escalation of tension along a single strategic direction from the Baltic Sea to the Kara Sea.
