German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin's foreign policy will not be limited to the war in Ukraine and is aimed at restoring the Soviet Union to its former borders.

According to Merz, the Russian leader is interested in "a fundamental change in borders in Europe" and this poses a serious military threat to countries that were formerly part of the USSR.
"Putin will not stop. If Ukraine falls, he will not stop," believes the German Chancellor.
Merz noted that continuous aid to Ukraine, as well as strategic cooperation with the European Union and the United Kingdom, are priorities of Germany's foreign and defense policy. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining NATO, whose effectiveness was previously questioned by US President Donald Trump.
