Relations between Belarus and the United States are gradually improving.
Modern.az reports that "The New York Times" wrote about this in an analytical article.
According to the publication, this is also evidenced by the fact that more than 100 political prisoners serving sentences in Belarusian prisons were released during the American-Belarusian talks.
The article states that the rapprochement of relations has been observed for several months, and the release of prisoners was made possible by talks held on Saturday in Minsk between Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenka and U.S. President's Special Representative John Koul. Mariya Kolesnikova, one of the political prisoners, was released and moved to the Belarus-Ukraine border. Ales Belyatski, the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist, also went to Vilnius.
All this indicates that Washington has gradually, but consistently, adopted a course of re-evaluating relations with Minsk, and this should be considered in the context of the Trump administration's general political line to re-evaluate relations with authoritarian regimes.
It is within the framework of this rapprochement that the United States has begun to ease sanction restrictions against Minsk. In particular, Washington has lifted the restriction on the supply of Belarusian potassium.
Washington has also stated its readiness to lift restrictions on Belavia airline and to consider the issue of restoring the activities of the American embassy in Minsk.
The article notes that this year John Koul has visited Belarus at least four times, which indicates an intensification of diplomatic relations between Washington and Minsk.
