The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with the Naval Forces, conducted a special operation in the area of Russia's Novorossiysk port.
Modern.az reports that during the operation, a submarine belonging to the Russian Navy was hit and disabled.
It is reported that for the first time in history, Ukrainian-owned "Sub Sea Baby" underwater drones exploded a Russian-made Project 636.3 "Varshavyanka"-class submarine. The submarine, classified as "Kilo" class by NATO, sustained critical damage as a result of the explosion and has effectively become unfit for operation.
According to information, there were four "Kalibr" cruise missile launchers on board the hit submarine, which were used to launch missile strikes on Ukrainian territory.
The operation was carried out by the 13th Department of the Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence in coordination with units of the Ukrainian Naval Forces.
The value of "Varshavyanka"-class submarines is estimated at approximately 400 million dollars. Due to international sanctions and limited access to technologies, Russia building a new submarine of the same type could cost at least 500 million dollars. Submarines of this class are also known by the unofficial name "Black Hole" due to their high stealth characteristics and are considered difficult to detect by sonar systems.
