The Arctic has experienced its warmest and wettest year on record.

Modern.az reports that this is stated in the report of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Research shows that climate change in the region is progressing more than twice as fast as the global average.

NOAA states that from October 2024 to September 2025, the surface air temperature in the Arctic reached its highest level since 1900. All of the last 10 years have been among the 10 warmest years in the history of measurements. Globally, the temperature increase has already exceeded 1.5 degrees compared to pre-industrial times.

The report emphasizes that as a result of rapidly melting permafrost, pollution with iron and other metals has increased in more than 200 rivers in Alaska, causing river waters to turn orange. Scientists state that this poses serious risks to water quality, biodiversity, and local communities.

Experts, calling the Arctic the “planet's refrigerator,” noted that the changes occurring in the region will directly affect the global climate, sea level rise, and atmospheric circulation. The report also highlighted that sea ice in the Arctic during the winter season fell to its lowest level in the history of satellite observations.
