The Tbilisi City Court sentenced Grigol Liluashvili, the former head of the Georgian State Security Service (SSS), to imprisonment as a pre-trial detention measure.
Modern.az reports that the decision was announced on the evening of December 24.
The pre-trial hearing for the case has been scheduled for February 16 at 12:00.
The court session was held behind closed doors at the request of the prosecution. The accused, Grigol Liluashvili, did not participate in the court hearing.
It should be noted that Grigol Liluashvili, the former head of the State Security Service, who came to the prosecutor's office for questioning, was arrested on December 23. He is accused under articles of the Georgian Criminal Code that stipulate taking particularly large amounts of bribes by a group of persons in prior conspiracy. If found guilty, the former SSS head faces a prison sentence of 11 to 15 years.
