In response to the US banning the entry of Malian and Burkinabe citizens into the country, these countries have taken reciprocal action.
Modern.az reports that the Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a visa ban has been imposed on US citizens. The Ministry stated that the decision was made on the principle of reciprocity and came into force immediately.
Burkina Faso's Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré also announced that US citizens are banned from entering the country.
What was Washington's decision?
It should be recalled that on December 16, US President Donald Trump expanded previously imposed travel restrictions to include Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. The White House cited attacks by armed groups and security risks as one of the main reasons for this decision.
It should be noted that the governments of Mali and Burkina Faso are struggling to control the rapidly spreading armed groups in both countries. The military junta authorities had declared that they would overthrow civilian governments and fight armed groups amidst the ongoing security crisis in the region.
