Located in the center of Amsterdam, the 150-year-old Vondelkerk church building was completely destroyed by a powerful fire.
Modern.az reports that, according to the NH Nieuws portal, the restoration of the architectural monument is not possible.
According to the portal's information, the fire occurred around one o'clock at night and the flames quickly engulfed the entire church. The causes of the fire have not yet been determined. It is reported that the building is in danger of collapsing.
Emergency services arriving at the scene closed all streets around the church. Due to the risk of the fire spreading to neighboring buildings, dozens of residents were evacuated from their homes.
It should be noted that Vondelkerk is a Neo-Gothic church built between 1872–1880 based on the design of architect Pierre Cuypers. The same architect also designed the buildings of Amsterdam Central Station and the Rijksmuseum. The church is located near Vondelpark and is one of the national cultural heritage sites of the Netherlands. In recent years, regular services were not held in the church, and the building functioned as a cultural venue. Exhibitions, concerts, and public events were organized here.
