New details have been released regarding the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by US special forces.
Modern.az reports that, according to information provided by CNN, citing sources familiar with the situation, Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were apprehended in their bedroom late at night, while they were sleeping. It is reported that US soldiers suddenly entered their home, and the couple did not resist.
According to the information, the operation was carried out by the US Army's elite special forces unit named “Delta”. Before the operation, the Central Intelligence Agency determined Maduro's exact location. Based on the information, President Donald Trump had approved Maduro's detention several days prior.
Although US military personnel were ready to conduct the operation during the Christmas holidays, the plan was postponed several times due to airstrikes on “Islamic State” targets in Nigeria and subsequent weather conditions.
It should be noted that “Delta” forces are considered one of the most secretive and elite special forces units of the US Army. This unit, based at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, consists of approximately 2,000 military personnel and specializes primarily in counter-terrorism operations, hostage rescue, and high-risk covert missions.
