US President Donald Trump made strong statements regarding Colombia and Cuba amid military operations in Venezuela.
According to Modern.az, he stated that his previous warnings regarding Colombian President Gustavo Petro remain in effect and Washington is not backing down from this position.
While answering journalists' questions, Trump claimed the existence of cocaine-producing facilities in Colombia and stated that these drugs were being sent to the US. According to him, if the Colombian leadership does not intensify its fight against drug production, severe measures could be taken by the United States. Trump had previously accused the Colombian government of promoting drug production.
The US President also stated that the issue of Cuba could also come to the fore as part of Washington's broader policy regarding the region. He emphasized that amid increasing tensions in Latin America, US attention might not be limited solely to Venezuela.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro, however, evaluated this US position as an interference in Latin American sovereignty and declared that such steps could lead to a humanitarian crisis in the region.
