Former US President Joe Biden receives a record amount in pension, which even exceeds his presidential salary.
Modern.az reports that this was stated in a report by the "New York Post" newspaper.
Biden receives approximately $417,000 annually, which is more than his salary during his presidency. This amount is also approximately twice as much as the pension of another former US President, Barack Obama.
According to Damian Brady, Vice President of the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, the high pension is linked to Biden's long political career. Brady noted that the former president became eligible to receive payments from two government pension funds within the first year after leaving office.
This summer, "Politico" reported, citing informed sources, that Biden leads a modest life in retirement, avoiding luxury.
Experts note that Biden's situation is unique and "sets a precedent" that could be revisited in the future. Legislation limiting presidential pensions and benefits had previously been proposed in Congress but was not adopted.
Some lawmakers are already discussing reforms to prevent such "extravagant" payments from becoming the norm for future presidents.
