Modern.az reports that this figure was determined based on data from the Aviation Safety Network. The network collects civil aviation incidents from all over the world, including aircraft with a capacity of 14 or more. According to this statistic, in 2025, 352 passengers, 33 crew members, and 33 people on the ground died in air crashes.
This figure is higher than the 334 fatalities in 2024. However, this is significantly lower than 50 years ago. In the 1970s, the probability of dying in the sky was 1 in 264,000, whereas today it is 1 in 11,459,330. Meanwhile, the number of air passengers has increased approximately tenfold since then, reaching 4.7 billion annually.
The deadliest air disaster of 2025 was the crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner in Ahmedabad.
