The region's governor, Yulius Selvanus, stated that hundreds of residential homes and administrative buildings were destroyed.
Torrential rains, which caused floods, began yesterday on Siau Island (Siau Tagulandang Biaro district). At least 444 people have been evacuated to local schools and churches. The search for missing persons is being carried out by rescue workers and volunteers.
