Venezuela's opposition leader María Corina Machado has announced her readiness to present the Nobel Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump. She noted that she is ready to share it with Trump as a sign of gratitude:
"The Venezuelan people are ready to take this step to thank Donald Trump for the arrest of the country's president Nicolás Maduro".
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that the opposition leader called this a historic step:
"This is a very significant step towards a democratic transition, and I want to convey this to the American people”.
In October 2025, the Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to María Corina Machado for her contribution to promoting the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people.
María Corina Machado lived in hiding after declaring that the 2024 presidential elections were fraudulent, seeking refuge from Maduro's regime. Venezuelan authorities arrested hundreds of her supporters.
