The number of migrants attempting to enter Germany with fraudulently obtained visas is steadily increasing.
Modern.az reports that as Germany has tightened border controls and made entry more difficult for undocumented migrants, foreigners are increasingly attempting to enter the country with visas obtained based on false information and reasons. Local media reports that visa fraud cases have reached a record level.
As determined by the German police, many of these fraudulent visas are "related to asylum applications" in Germany, as well as in France, Greece, Italy, and Spain. Furthermore, undocumented migrants seeking legal entry are increasingly obtaining "German national visas without any real basis for work or study," a police spokesperson told BILD.
In 2025, the police opened 5569 cases related to visa fraud, which is slightly less than the total number for 2024 (5578 cases). For comparison, in 2022, only 2596 suspects were involved in visa fraud in Germany. Thus, this figure has doubled in 3 years.
Visa fraud is particularly widespread among Turkish citizens, with 634 suspicious cases detected this year alone. Azerbaijani citizens hold the second position on the list. Last year, 526 of our compatriots attempted to enter Germany with visas based on false information. The next highest instances of visa fraud involve Iran (462), Syria (275), and Afghanistan (212).
