Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke about the controversial Armenian oligarchs Ruben Vardanyan and Samvel Karapetyan.

According to Modern.az, Pashinyan stated in an interview with journalists that a false perception had formed in Armenian society, and even within himself, regarding these oligarchs: previously they were thought to be philanthropists, but not anymore.

In response to a journalist's question, “why did you applaud them as philanthropists before, but not now?” Pashinyan admitted his mistake and replied as follows:

"It later became clear that all of this was a false perception. There is economic interest: if there is interest, there will be investment; if not, there will be no investment," Pashinyan clarified why Vardanyan and Karapetyan invested millions of dollars in Armenia.

He noted that they became convinced of this after investigating how much money was raised and invested in Armenia through cooperation with the All-Armenian Fund from 1992 to 2018.

It should be recalled that Ruben Vardanyan is currently imprisoned in Azerbaijan, while Samvel Karapetyan is under house arrest in Armenia.
