Colombian President Gustavo Petro has not ruled out the existence of a possible risk of the use of force against Colombia following the recent military operation conducted by the United States in Venezuela.

Modern.az reports that in an interview with Britain's BBC television channel, Gustavo Petro stated that the threat is real, but Colombia does not have the capacity to compete in terms of armament with a powerful armed force.

According to him, the country's main pillar is not weapons, but its people, and these people live in mountains and jungles. The President emphasized that Colombia has historically resisted stronger armies precisely in this way.

Petro stated that he prefers dialogue over confrontation and added that Colombia's past clearly demonstrates how the country has endured external pressures. He also noted that Washington's approach to other states with “imperial ambitions” ultimately increases the risk of the U.S. itself being isolated in the international arena.

It should be recalled that after the operation carried out in Venezuelan territory, Donald Trump had also called on the Colombian president to be cautious. This tension between the U.S. and Colombia further increases security concerns in the region.
