Since the start of the war in Ukraine (February 24, 2022), Russia has lost at least 19 generals.
Modern.az reports that "The Insider" newspaper published information on this matter, citing reports from open sources in Russia and Ukraine.
The publication notes that these deaths have not been officially confirmed by the Russian authorities. However, their relatives have acknowledged the losses.
"The Insider" newspaper reports that Russian generals have been killed both on the front lines and in the rear (for example, as a result of military sabotage).
The first Russian general killed after the start of the full-scale war was Andrey Sukhovetsky, deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army formation (he was killed on February 28, 2022, in the Chernihiv region; likely shot by a sniper).
Russian generals Oleg Mityaev, Vladimir Frolov, Andrey Simonov, Kanamat Botashev, and Roman Kutuzov were killed in 2022.
In subsequent years, Sergey Goryachev, Oleg Tsokov, and Vladimir Zavadsky were eliminated. Igor Kirillov, Yaroslav Moskalik, and Mikhail Gudkov are also among the killed generals.
The last general killed is Fanil Sarvarov, head of the General Staff's Operational Training Directorate (on December 22, 2025, as a result of a car bomb explosion in Moscow).
