US President Donald Trump will receive a closed briefing in the coming days regarding Washington's possible reactions to the ongoing nationwide protests in Iran.
Modern.az reports that "The Wall Street Journal" published information about this, citing sources in the administration.
According to the information, the planned meeting will be held with the participation of high-ranking officials, and the next steps to be taken by the US will be discussed.
According to sources, the options under discussion include more active support for anti-government sources in Iran via the internet, conducting cyber operations against Iranian military and civilian targets, imposing additional sanctions, as well as possible military strikes. However, it is noted that final decisions are not expected to be made at this stage, as the process is at the preliminary discussion level.
The closed meeting is expected to be attended by US Secretary of State Marko Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pit Heqset, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Den Keyn.
Against the backdrop of these events, Iranian Prince Reza Pahlavi, currently living in exile, also appealed to the US president. He called on Trump to support “efforts for freedom” in Iran. Pahlavi stated that Trump has already shaped his political legacy as a leader committed to peace and “fighting evil forces,” and that some people in Iran renaming streets in his honor is an indication of this. According to him, the goal is to strengthen this legacy by “liberating” Iran and building a better future for the peoples of both countries.
Meanwhile, according to local and international media reports, police detained more than 100 protesters during demonstrations held in Iran's Lorestan province. Official bodies have not yet provided detailed information regarding the charges brought against the detainees and their subsequent fate.
