The White House has ruled out the possibility of sending US troops to Iran.

Modern.az reports this, citing CNN.

According to sources, US President Donald Trump is considering several options to support the ongoing protests in Iran, but none of these options involve the deployment of US military personnel in Iran.

A White House representative, speaking to the TV channel, noted that the administration is wary that possible strikes on Iran could backfire within the country, unite Iranians around the government, or lead to retaliatory military actions by the Islamic Republic. CNN sources emphasized that Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision regarding intervention in Iran, but is seriously considering taking certain steps amid the rising death toll in the country.

According to a US-based human rights organization, at least 538 people have died during protests in Iran. Among the deceased, 48 are reported to be law enforcement officers. According to activists' claims, more than 10,600 individuals participating in the demonstrations have been detained.

It should be noted that protests in Iran escalated after a wave of strikes began on December 28 in the capital, initiated by entrepreneurs protesting the sharp depreciation of the national currency and price increases. Donald Trump had previously stated multiple times that if the number of deaths among protesters increased, the US could strike Iran. Official Tehran, however, accuses the US and Israel of organizing the ongoing unrest.
