Russia is losing up to 25,000 soldiers every month in the war in Ukraine.
Modern.az reports that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte Rutte stated this at the Global Europe conference.
"Russia is currently losing a large number of soldiers due to Ukraine's strong defense. In one month, this varies between 20,000 and 25,000. I am talking about the dead, not the seriously wounded".
According to the NATO Secretary General, estimates suggest that Russia lost 300,000 soldiers in Ukraine in 2025 alone. If we project this data over approximately 4 years of war, it means 1.2 million Russians killed at the front.
Mark Rutte compared this figure to the war in Afghanistan in the 1980s, stating that if the Soviet Army lost approximately 20,000 soldiers over 10 years, Russia is now losing the same number of servicemen in just one month.
The NATO Secretary General stated that, according to data as of December 2025, the total number of dead and wounded from Russia amounted to 1.15 million people. Approximately 400,000 of the wounded are estimated to be disabled, which can be compared to the population of Bryansk or Tver.
Rutte also emphasized that Moscow shows no signs of softening its stance against NATO.
The NATO Secretary General added that Russia is cooperating with China, Iran, and North Korea to achieve its goals. According to the head of the North Atlantic Alliance, these four countries "are increasingly cooperating to challenge NATO".
