Iran plans to create a closed internal internet network with a limited number of domestic websites.
Modern.az reports that "The Guardian" newspaper wrote about this, citing Iranian digital technology expert Amir Rashidi.
Currently, internet access is restricted in Iran.
This was caused by protests held in the country.
Protests in Iran began in late December 2025 due to the devaluation of the Iranian rial, the local currency. Initially, the main issue was sharp fluctuations in the exchange rate and their impact on wholesale and retail prices. However, protests in several Iranian cities later turned into clashes with the police, and slogans took on a political character, targeting the existing political system in the country. Casualties are reported among both security forces and protesters.
Iran's Supreme National Security Council has accused the US and Israel of organizing the unrest in the Islamic Republic.
