Television channels in Kyrgyzstan have been prohibited from broadcasting more than 40% of their content in Russian.
Modern.az reports that television channels in Kyrgyzstan are required to increase the share of programs broadcast in Kyrgyz to 60 percent. According to Deputy Minister of Culture Marat Tagayev, some private channels formally comply with the requirements without producing new content.
They have been instructed to sign contracts with "Kyrgyzfilm" and "Kyrgyzserial" by the end of February. Otherwise, appropriate measures will be taken by the end of the year. It should be noted that the previous limit was 50 percent.
Nevertheless, Russian television channels, including "Channel One", "Rossiya 24", "Kultura", and "Zvezda", have a significant presence in the country's media landscape.
