European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has promised that a “resolute response” will be given tomorrow to US President Donald Trump's threats regarding Greenland.

Modern.az reports that during her speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, von der Leyen warned that Trump's stance on Greenland, a Danish territory, could drag US-European Union relations into a “dangerous downward spiral.”

It should be noted that after the US President threatened to impose tariffs against eight European countries amid the conflict surrounding Greenland, Europe is considering possible retaliatory measures. Washington, however, stated that any countermeasure would be an “unwise step.”

“Proposals for imposing additional tariffs are wrong, especially in terms of relations between long-standing allies. If we move down a downward spiral, this will only serve rivals whom both of us are trying to keep out of strategic space. Therefore, our response will be resolute, unified, and proportionate,” Leyen said.

It should be recalled that the US President has repeatedly emphasized the importance of Washington's control over Greenland. According to him, if the US does not do this, China or Russia could seize control of the island. Europe, however, opposes Trump's claims regarding Greenland.
