The US does not support the creation of a separate Kurdish state in Syria and has openly declared that it has no interest in this direction.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by Tom Barak, the US Ambassador to Turkey and Special Representative for Syria.

He noted that the main mission for which the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were created has already been completed, and therefore there is no longer a need for the existence of a separate military-political entity.

According to the diplomat, the main role of the SDF was to fight ISIS, but currently Damascus is ready and capable of taking responsibility for ensuring security.

Barak emphasized that the US has no intention of a long-term military presence in Syria, and Washington's priorities are the destruction of ISIS remnants, support for the reconciliation process, and the strengthening of national unity. According to him, the US supports neither separatism nor federalization.

Tom Barak stated that the current situation creates new opportunities for Kurds. In his opinion, the integration of Kurds into the new Syrian state can grant them full citizenship rights, recognition as an integral part of Syria, constitutional protection of the Kurdish language and culture, as well as full participation in state administration. The diplomat added that integration, to be carried out with active diplomatic support from the US, is the most realistic and powerful way for Kurds to secure long-term safety and guaranteed rights within the internationally recognized Syrian state.
