US President Donald Trump expressed his position on Greenland during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Modern.az reports that he commented on the tension arising in international relations surrounding this issue.

Trump stated in his speech that the acquisition of Greenland by the US is necessary for both national and international security. According to him, Greenland, the world's largest island, is practically a part of North America and is currently not adequately protected.

The US President emphasized that it is impossible to defend this territory without full ownership rights over it. Trump described Greenland as “a large piece of ice located in the middle of the ocean,” stating that in the event of a possible war, major military operations would pass over this very territory.

The US leader noted that Greenland's takeover by the US would not pose a threat to NATO; on the contrary, it would significantly strengthen the alliance's overall security. He claimed that NATO had acted unfairly towards the US and stated that Washington had not received adequate reciprocity within the alliance.

In his speech, Trump also touched upon the possibility of using force. According to him, if the US wanted to, it could use “unstoppable” force, but it has no such intention. The President explicitly stated that he does not want to use force in the Greenland issue and will not use it.

The US President accused Denmark of weakness in protecting Greenland, stating that no other country besides the US could ensure the security of this territory. Trump emphasized Greenland's strategic importance for the US and announced Washington's readiness to immediately begin negotiations on this matter.

At the beginning of his speech, Trump approached the topic humorously, asking the audience if they wanted him to say a few words about Greenland. This remark was met with laughter in the hall. The President noted that he had actually considered removing this topic from his speech but realized he would be severely criticized if he did so.
