The existence of several alternative transport corridors in the South Caucasus will increase interest in the Middle Corridor, which will create new economic opportunities for Georgia.
Modern.az reports that these words were stated by Sozar Subari, Vice-Speaker of the Georgian Parliament and Chairman of the "People's Power" party, while commenting on the processes in the South Caucasus, the Zangezur corridor, and Georgia's transit role.
Touching upon Azerbaijan's role in these matters, the Vice-Speaker said: "The establishment of peace in the South Caucasus and the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity is an important and significant event for the region. The acceptance of this reality by Armenian society also contributes to regional stability".
Speaking about the Zangezur corridor, Sozar Subari emphasized that the main purpose of the route is to connect Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and this is a completely natural and logical step from a geographical point of view.
In his opinion, direct cargo transportation between Azerbaijan and Armenia will also be a normal process in the future, and the revenue Georgia will lose from this will not be substantial.
Subari also noted that new transit opportunities extending from Nakhchivan to Turkey and connecting East and West are important for the entire region. Such projects strengthen Georgia's transit role and create conditions for an increase in cargo volume across all corridors.
The Georgian politician stated that as the Caucasus forms a single economic space, new transport routes created with Azerbaijan's participation will also create additional advantages for Georgia and further increase the region's international importance.
